Carlisle – Washington Elms (1)

Willow Street at West Street
Carlisle, PA

These two markers are not “Keystones”, but the more round-topped type used to denote some Borough lines, etc.  Both are on cast posts of the type used for town markers. They commemorate the 1932 planting of Elm trees on the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington. Sadly the Elm trees died off long ago, and were replaced with Zelkovas, thus causing the smaller “postscript” addition to these markers.
