  • EXPLANATION OF NAME: (text on marker) STATE HIGHWAY - "Site of Austin Dam Destroyed By Flood Sept 30, 1911" - DEPARTMENT
  • MANUFACTURER: Undetermined. Sign in one of the pictures appears to be a locally made replica of the original cast iron one.
  • SHAPE: Standard 1-sided The words STATE HIGHWAY and DEPARTMENT at top and bottom of sign were cast into the sign. The other text was probably painted on.
  • STATUS: The sign itself is sadly long gone. Known from circa 1950 photos courtesy of M. Wintermantel. 2nd photo showing breached dam date unknown courtesy of JGl. 2011 photo by M. Wintermantel shows site. As of March 2022, the post is still there, and now holds a sign regarding a 1992 work project. A wooden replica of this marker was made by a local craftsman.
