- COUNTY: Chester
- COORDINATES: 40.025796, -75.507063
- SHAPE: Standard 1-sided
- STATUS: As of 2022 believed to be still there. This is a very unusual marker, having the "Pennsylvania" and "State Highway" text as cast letters, while the rest is painted on. There were likely more of these at one time and this is one of a very few still known.
- MANUFACTURER: From the small bit of deciferable text on the back side, we believe this one was cast by the Carlisle Foundry in Carlisle PA.
Originally a directional sign from another location, this sign was re-purposed by an unknown source to commemorate the site of the Paoli Massacre, a 1777 Revolutionary War incident.
The directional text was smoothed out on the sign to create a space for the new message. The “ghosts” of the original lettering can still be seen. The top line of directional text is not legible, but the bottom line is barely, reading “Norristown – 10”.
